Upwork Program Manager Design SME

An Upwork Program Manager Design SME is the human layer between the Upwork platform and Upwork Enterprise clients, providing white glove service and strategic consultation for program activities. 


  • Takes ownership and responsibility for managing individual client projects
  • Leads and actively participates in client intake calls for client projects
  • Ensures compliance with client- and project-specific processes and procedures 
  • Responsible for creating, implementing, and ensuring compliance with individual project expectations for Upwork Professionals
  • Drives client relationships for all assigned projects and leverages resources to maximize growth and opportunity
  • Works with clients to develop project scope and execution
  • Manages internal relationships with cross-functional teams to maximize client success
  • Uses background knowledge and skills to support clients with design related projects
  • Manages workflow of digital and print design projects

What it Takes to Catch our Eye:

  • Demonstrated program management, project management, or operational management 
  • Deep knowledge of the Upwork platform
  • Advanced knowledge managing digital design projects
  • Advanced knowledge managing hard copy design projects
  • Prior, first-hand, experience working with Design Agencies 
  • Ability to provide strategic scoping of digital and hard copy design projects
  • Experience with large program management and administration, including experience working with distributed teams
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, delegate, and take ownership over multiple projects at once
  • An active Upwork platform account, in good standing, with a minimum of 500 billed hours, or reasonable milestone equivalent
  • Must possess a high level of business acumen and professional communication style 
  • Excellent English communication skills (other languages are also a plus)
