Senior Counsel - Employment

The Fastly Law Team is looking for an attorney to serve as an advisor and partner to People Team, providing employment and benefit legal advice. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundational law firm training in labor law with practical experience addressing and resolving the employment issues global and rapidly scaling companies face. We are looking for a lawyer who sees themself as a trusted advisor who solves problems practically. We are seeking candidates who value working on a strong and diverse team, and want to contribute to creating a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment. This position will be based remotely with the option to work out of a Fastly office when we re-open our offices, and will report to our Vice President & Deputy General Counsel, who is in San Francisco.

What You'll Do

  • Advise on all employment and benefit related legal matters, providing the Law and People Teams guidance to drive compliance with applicable labor and employment laws
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and revising employee policies and procedures, and advise on their application and enforcement (including leaves and ADA accommodation requests)
  • Support investigations into claims of policy violations and complaints of inappropriate treatment or conduct
  • Manage employment or contractor related template agreements
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws impacting Fastly and its workforce and make recommendations to ensure compliance with changes in the law
  • Supervise outside counsel on employment or benefits issues requiring law firm support
  • Analyze and make recommendations on business operations response to evolving impact of COVID-19
  • Create and provide in-house training on employment-related matters

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of combined employment law experience, including law firm practice and at least 2 years of in-house legal experience, especially at high-growth tech companies
  • Robust experience independently counseling a human resources team on day-to-day employment issues
  • Experience with compensation and benefits programs for public companies, including equity plans and executive compensation
  • Familiarity with non-U.S. employment issues in major markets for talent and experience managing outside counsel in local international jurisdictions
  • A collegial self-starter who makes independent progress on complex or challenging projects and exercises excellent judgment in raising issues and when collaborating
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and to successfully manage multiple projects to completion across many different lines of communications
  • A pragmatic and practical approach to problem solving and getting things done
  • A penchant for discretion
  • Member of good standing of the California bar
