Beats - Senior Engineering Manager

At Elastic, we have a simple goal: to solve the world's data problems with products that delight and inspire. As the company behind the popular open source projects — Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash, and Beats — we help people around the world do great things with their data. From stock quotes to Twitter streams, Apache logs to WordPress blogs, our products are extending what's possible with data, delivering on the promise that good things come from connecting the dots. Diversity drives our vibe. We unite people across 30+ countries into one coherent team, while the broader community spans across over 100 countries.

More about Beats

The Beats platform is the basis for building open source shippers that collect all kinds of operational data, store it in Elasticsearch, and visualize it with Kibana. They collect data from edge servers, and are used to power application monitoring, infrastructure monitoring, and network monitoring. We currently have six official Beats: Filebeat for gathering logs, Packetbeat for network traffic, Metricbeat for metrics, Winlogbeat for Windows event logs, Heartbeat for uptime monitoring, Auditbeat for audit data and our serverless Functionbeat to collect logs from different services in Cloud . In addition, the open-source community has created over 40 Beats, collecting data from all sorts of sources. All current Beats are written in Golang.

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to support and lead engineers in the Beats team. The team is diverse and distributed across the world, and collaborates on daily basis over GitHub, Zoom and Slack.

Engineering Philosophy

Engineering a highly complex distributed system that is easy to operate via elegantly designed APIs is a non-trivial effort. It requires solid software development skills, and more importantly, a sharp mind and the ability to think like a user. We also care deeply about giving you full ownership of what you’re working on. Our company fundamentally believes great minds achieve greatness when they are set free and are surrounded and challenged by their peers, which is clearly visible in our organization. At Elastic, we effectively don’t have a hierarchy to speak of. We feel that anyone needs to be in a position to comment on absolutely anything, regardless of his or her role within the company.

  • Support the development and training of direct reports through regular performance evaluations
  • Hold 1-on-1s and develop performance evaluations for direct reports
  • Participate in interviewing and drive hiring and significant team growth
  • Be an awesome person to work with, somebody who sincerely cares

What you will bring along

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Significant experience leading teams of software engineers
